Promoting your business site with Squidoo is one of the most effective affiliate marketing methods, right beside article marketing and blogging. It has become one of the most popular online marketing trends for a good reason.

Squidoo is an online community of lensmasters. Lensmasters are Squidoo members that create content on Squidoo via Squidoo lenses, one-page information sites that serve to inform people of a certain topic or subject and to point the way, providing links to products, sites or giving product reviews.

Squidoo has many different aspects, such as member interaction via commenting on lenses, joining relevant groups or rating other members lenses. Promotion of affiliate products and sites has been made very easy by Squidoo. In fact, unlike most sites online, they welcome affiliate marketers.

One of the best things about Squidoo is that the content created on it ranks extremely well in the search engines. 2. If you have your own website, be sure to link to it from your Squidoo lenses and use an anchor text with the targeted keywords that you want your site to compete on in the search engines. This can give a great boost to your site’s search engine rankings.

3. Use social bookmarking to get the word out about your lens. This will give you more backlinks and more readers. And more sales.

4. Update your lenses at least one per week if you want to make a long term profit from them. There are two reasons for this. First, updating your lens frequently will make it rank higher on Squidoo, which gives you credibility as an expert on the given subject. Second, you can track the click through rate and tweak the content to be more appealing.

5. Post comments on other people’s lenses, but make them constructive. Also, be sure to compliment them on a great lens. This will give you more traffic to your own lenses.

6. When you become a lensmaster, every lens that you make will look like this: Squidoo.com/nameofyourlens. Be sure to choose the name of your lens carefully, as well as the title of your lens. It must be something that gives the visitors a clear view at the lens’ content.

Squidoo is a powerful asset for everyone who wants to make money online. Use it to get the word out about your site and to build your credibility, to create more presence in the search engines and to make sales. And then more sales.

Getting started online with an Internet business is not difficult, but you must have some direction and training if you want to be successful. It took me about a year to make any money when I first came online in 2005, and that was because I was trying to do it myself. Once I began working with a mentor, put some systems into place, and began serving one main niche, that is when I started making money and feeling like a true entrepreneur.

It took me almost two years to find a mentor that could help me to succeed. Along the way I spent thousands of dollars with people who proclaimed to be online mentors. Each of them were still learning how to make a living on the Internet, meaning that they changed their training frequently and finally just had to tell people they did not have answers to the questions they were being asked. I was determined to never be that type of mentor, so I have continued to learn and grow to better serve those who come to me for marketing training. Make sure that the person you are working with and learning from knows enough to be teaching you how to get started. Online Internet Marketing Course

Putting my systems into place was a big step for me, and will be for you as well. I am now able to travel every month without having to think about my business. What I do think about are the people who are a part of my business, meaning my students and the others on my list. Take the time to learn how to set up your shopping cart, your autoresponders, and your products. I also have several membership sites, so I make sure they are set up as well.

Choosing a niche is a big step for everyone. I let my niche find me, which turns out to be the best way to do it. Learn as much as you can, start blogging, listen to teleseminars and other training, and get involved with social media. Soon you will realize what you want to do online, and then it will all come together for you. For me, realizing that people wanted to learn technology from me was huge. I was taking what I knew for granted, and it turned out I was able to build an entire business around something that was fun for me to do. Online Internet Marketing Course

Giant Squid Open Mike Monday had its debut this past Monday, August 3. Originally, we planned to have the show once a month. Judging from the flow of the show, which stimulated interest from our listeners, we now will have the show every week.

We started out discussing why in heck anyone would want to be a Giant Squid?

Secondly, do we want Squidoo to be a business or a hobby?

Jaguar Julie weighed in by saying that when she first started out on Squidoo, she wasn’t sure what she was doing, echoing what is true for most of us. Squidoo Mentors did not exist when Julie began her Squidoo journey, but she created several dozen lenses and did something else for a year.

Kimberly and Megan, who essentially run Squidoo, challenged Julie to be a Giant 100 in the summer of 2007, and that is what she did.

The next discussion evolved to the benefits of becoming a Giant Squid on Squidoo. Squidoo wants to help people who are dedicated to making 50-100 and more quality lenses. And as we have discussed before, there are responsibilities to becoming a Giant Squid. We help the newbies, we read lenses and recommend them to others.

As Giants, we are privy to new features and modules, are eligible to win the coveted purple star for a job well done, which in turn, increases the lens ranking of that lens.

Many of us went to Giant Summer school. and as I write these words, I finished my last assignment and submitted it. Giant squid summer school and Rocket Moms automatically gets your lenses out there for all to see. Plus, we have an opportunity to learn from the lenses created by other Giants.

A new program has just been introduced by Squidoo, and we briefly discussed it. It is called the Internship program, where we invite people to participate in the Squidoo community, and give them a helping hand, over a two month period.

How do we want to approach Squidoo? Jaguar Julie’s lenses are showcases for interesting lenses that sell affiliate products. Jaguar Julie has made over 400 lenses. She humbly mentioned others who have made 800 or 1000 lenses. Funny how this works. The process of lens building takes on a creative force of its own, and as per Julie, 400 lenses seems inconsequential.

As we look at Jaguar Julie’s lenses, we see that learning CSS and HTML are crucial to creating a lens that sells products.

Here I asked a question about several niches I am considering embracing: Heirloom Garlic, Stinging Nettle, and Holy Basil.

Julie and Chef Keem recommended making lenses that point back to a blog. They did not recommend a website.

We discussed making powerful text links. You make a hyperlink in the lens that points to the blog, and make the hyperlink keyword rich. Also, putting the keyword in the powerful domain of Squidoo automatically makes for a good Google ranking.

Google the “Google Keyword Tool” to start familiarizing yourself with keyword searches. Do your searches in quotation marks.

Once you’ve chosen your keywords, sprinkle them through the titles, subtitles and in the copy.

Don’t forget to also use them in the Bio, which you can individualize to every one of your lenses.

Use famous people to make your point, providing for relevancy, of course. Chef Keem used Paris Hilton in a Squid Log post recently, which blew out the search engine.

Metaphorically speaking, of course.
